Immortal jellyfish

Did you know that there is a species of jellyfish called the “immortal jellyfish” that is capable of reverting back to its juvenile form after reaching maturity? This means that the jellyfish can potentially live forever!

When faced with a stressful situation such as starvation, physical damage, or disease, the immortal jellyfish can transform its cells into a younger state through a process called transdifferentiation. Essentially, the jellyfish’s cells can become any other type of cell in its body, allowing it to regenerate and start anew.

While the immortal jellyfish is not truly immortal, as it can still be killed by predators or disease, its ability to seemingly defy the aging process is a fascinating and unique trait. It just goes to show that there is still so much we have yet to learn about the incredible diversity of life on our planet!
